Eco-forestry Survey
Alliance Parc Deschênes undertook an ecoforestry inventory project between 2021 and 2024. The inventory, supported by a grant from the City of Gatineau’s Fonds vert in 2022, was carried out by a team of volunteer scientists. Trees, shrubs, and plants were identified, habitats described and plant biodiversity and carbon stocks quantified. The results show that the area is predominantly forested, covering 83% of the total surface area. In addition to this, herbaceous sites accounted for 9% of the total area, shrubby sites for 6%, and permantent flooded areas for 3%. Furthermore, the presence of water is significant: the inventory indicates that 31% of the site is occupied by swampy areas, mainly wooded and seasonal. Details on the plant species, habitats, and carbon stock were presented in a first publication: Alliance Parc Deschênes, 2023, Habitats et biodiversité de la forêt Deschênes – Inventaire écoforestier – première phase, 10 pages. A second publication will be released shortly including a map of the different environments.
